Location

The property is located on the western fringe of Auckland’s CBD in Freemans Bay, to the northern side of Wellington Street. Freemans Bay has become a popular fringe commercial CBD location.

In this location, the property is very well positioned in terms of roading infrastructure. The on ramp which provides access to the Northern Motorway runs along the eastern boundary of the property. Access to the southern and north-western motorway is within 500 metres to the north-east. A primary attribute of the specific site position is the extensive prominence and exposure to the adjoining motorway.

Zoning

The property is zoned Mixed Use under the Auckland Unitary Plan, with the office buildings benefiting from existing use rights. Any future residential use to part or all of the property would be supported by the underlying Mixed Use zoning.

Historic Building – Background & Heritage

Building used to be St Patrick’s School, constructed circa 1926-27, to designs by the noted Auckland architect George Edmund Tole, with further alterations in the later 20th century.  It was originally built as a Catholic School for the Sisters of Mercy Convent, but closed in 1979. The building was the oldest school in NZ at the time of its closure.  It has been redeveloped in the late 20th Century and the remodelled building, developed as offices and a training facility for McDonald’s, was opened by Sir Edmund Hilary in 1992.
